I’m delighted to share that The Yorkshire Post has published an article highlighting the growth trajectory of Planet Sport, my journey into the media industry, and my vision for the future of the company.

It’s a moment of reflection and pride as we look back on how far we’ve come and where we’re headed.

Planet Sport’s Remarkable Growth

The article showcases how Planet Sport has been “bucking media trends” in recent years, with a 54% year-on-year increase in group revenue, reaching £8.44 million in March 2024. We’ve also achieved a 439% increase in net profit, driven by our dedicated teams in Leeds, South Africa, and beyond. In a time when challenges in media are widespread, these achievements underscore the hard work and innovation driving our business.

Leeds, my hometown, is a cornerstone of our growth. As I mention in the article, Leeds is one of the biggest hubs outside London for innovation and technology, with a fantastic pool of talent. Being born and raised here, I’m committed to continuing our expansion while creating jobs in the city. In 2025, we aim to scale up significantly, with plans to add another 50–100 roles in Leeds while exploring “untapped opportunities” in markets like the US.

My Journey Into Media

The article also dives into my path into the media industry. Starting in 1998 with TEAMtalk.com, I’ve seen the evolution of digital media firsthand, from pioneering internet-based football content to navigating global media landscapes. My time in South Africa leading TEAMtalk Media and eventually launching Planet Sport in 2021 was transformative, offering me invaluable insights into the industry’s potential and challenges.

From working in a tannery in Leeds to leading an international media company, my journey has been far from conventional. Challenges, like the car accident that led me to reconsider my career path, have shaped my resilience and perspective. I’m proud of the growth Planet Sport has achieved and look forward to what’s next.

Where We’re Headed

As the article mentions, 2025 is set to be a pivotal year for Planet Sport. Our goal is to solidify our presence as a global leader in sports media, expand into new territories, and continue innovating in how we deliver sports content. Whether it’s through new technologies or deeper connections with our audience, our vision remains clear: to build something that excites fans and provides value to the sports community.
